PET CT is heavily used in cancer staging, treatment response, fever or unknown origin. It does have limitations too. It can give you false positive on reactive lymph nodes or infection etc. Pneumonia can be super super hot. It can also be false negative given the size of the lesion. You really can’t reliably trust PET for lung nodule less than 1 cm. Also mucinous type cancer such as signet ring esophageal adeno or gastric adeno could be cold on PET. BAL also called adenocarinoma in situ can be quite cold on PET. Bottom line is that It takes an experienced person to interpret the findings correctly. I apologize I cannot speak medical Chinese. |
